Frequently Asked Questions

Cars are listed at a single price and stay on the site until they sell. Offers include a price, and four other criteria for the seller to consider. You can offer above the asking price or below it — the seller decides.

All offers appear on the listing page and stand for 72 hours. Buyers can adjust or cancel their offer at any time before the seller accepts an offer. The seller can accept any offer at any time, which ends the listing.

Yes. Buyers and sellers have a private dashboard to review activity, and to make changes any time before an offer is accepted.

No. The price on a listing is the seller's asking price, not a floor. You can offer whatever you think the car is worth, and the seller decides whether to accept.

As long as the seller wants. There is no fixed listing period. A car stays on the site until the seller accepts an offer or takes the listing down.

72 hours. After that the offer lapses and the seller can no longer accept it, so every offer on a listing page is one still on the table. A buyer whose offer has lapsed is free to place another.

Click "Make an Offer" on the listing page, and answer 5 questions:

• Price. Any amount — above or below the asking price
• Deposit. Any amount, due when the offer is accepted
• Method of Payment. TANC escrow or an alternative
• Time to Acquire. Time needed for full payment and to pick up the car
• Method to Acquire. In person or by a vehicle transport service

Yes. Offers can be changed or cancelled any time before the offer is accepted by the seller.

When the seller accepts an offer:

• The listing ends and the car is sold
• TANC's fee is charged
• The deposit is due to escrow within 2 business days
• You have 2 business days to tell us you want a pre-purchase inspection
• We book it with an inspector from our network; you engage and pay the inspector
• You have 2 business days after you receive the report to walk away if the car is not as described
• The price is due within the time specified in the offer
• TANC will assist arranging premium vehicle transportation

If the report documents any of the following, and it wasn't in the listing, you can terminate and we refund your fee in full:

• Accident damage or structural repair
• Repainted, refinished or replaced body panels
• A branded title (salvage, rebuilt, lemon buyback, flood, odometer rollback) or an undisclosed lien
• An odometer reading materially different from the listing
• A VIN that doesn't match the listing
• A major mechanical or electrical component documented as non-functioning or needing replacement
• An undisclosed modification that materially affects value

Request the inspection within 2 business days of acceptance, and give written notice within 2 business days of receiving the report.

We also cover what you paid for the inspection if we arranged it from our network and you give notice within 10 days of acceptance. One per buyer every 12 months. You're free to use your own inspector — the fee refund still applies — but we won't reimburse an inspection we didn't arrange.

For any other reason, the fee is non-refundable.

Your deposit is held by the escrow provider under your agreement with the seller. TANC does not control the deposit and is not a party to that agreement.

Click List Your Car on our homepage and answer a few, simple questions. If your car is approved, TANC builds your listing for you.

Listings should include at least 100 photographs.

If you would rather not shoot the car yourself, TANC will arrange a professional automotive photographer to come to you. Ask for one on the photos step when you complete your listing, and once your listing is approved you choose the day and time that suits you. TANC charges nothing to arrange it; the photographer's rate is paid directly to the provider.

The finished photographs are added to your listing.

Yes. If you make a material change, however, TANC reserves the right to cancel all outstanding offers. You can cancel your listing at any time prior to accepting an offer.

Yes, sellers may cancel listings anytime before accepting an offer. The listing will be removed from active display immediately.

Sellers pay nothing.

Buyers pay 1% of the price.

No minimum fee, no listing fees, no hidden fees.

No fees for vehicle history reports, escrow services, and title verification services.

No fees for arranging vehicle inspections or transportation. The buyer pays the inspector directly and is the inspector's client. Transportation is paid directly to the carrier.

No fees for professional photography. TANC will arrange a photographer to come to your car, subject to availability in your area. The actual cost of the photography session is paid by the seller directly to the provider.

When a seller accepts an offer, TANC's fee is charged and is non-refundable — with one exception. If you get a pre-purchase inspection and it shows the car is not as described in the listing, you can walk away and we refund your fee in full. If we arranged the inspection, we also cover what you paid for it. See "What if the inspection shows a problem?" below.
