The S-Model arrived with the W212 facelift as the sharpened E63: 577 hp and 590 lb-ft from the 5.5-liter biturbo V8, an electronic limited-slip rear differential and firmer chassis calibration. In a straight line it compressed the gap between the E63 and the exotic end of the market to almost nothing. The S designation has anchored the top of the E63 range ever since.
