The SL400 opened the R231 SL range in the US for 2015, its 329-hp 3.0-liter biturbo V6 giving the aluminum-bodied roadster a lighter nose and more agile character than the V8 cars. The folding hardtop, available Magic Sky Control glass roof and full S-Class-grade equipment carried over intact. It lasted two model years before a power bump renamed it SL450.
