The i8 was BMW's bet that a sports car could be built like nothing before it: a carbon-fiber passenger cell, butterfly doors, and a mid-mounted 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder working with a front electric motor. It looked like the concept car it was born from and still does. Production ended in 2020, and the i8 has settled into its role as a design landmark of the early hybrid era.
