The GT S launched the AMG GT line in America for 2016, arriving a year before the base car with 503 hp from the then-new M178 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. The dry-sump engine sits entirely behind the front axle line, feeding a rear transaxle — a layout Mercedes had not offered since the SLS. As the original C190, it holds the historical position in the range even where later variants surpassed its numbers.
